The SIPP tracks a lot of data behind the scenes, but these guys running for the Republican nomination are people too, so take some time after checking out this weeks SIPP to learn a bit more about the candidates. Some of it may surprise you!

Newt Gingrich

  1. He was born Newton Leroy McPherson. Gingrich is his step-father’s name.
  2. Newt has been married three times. His first two marriages ended with affairs.
  3. Newt’s current wife (Callista) is 23 years younger than him.
  4. Newt is a dinosaur enthusiast.

Ron Paul

  5. 2012 is Ron’s third time running for President.

Mitt Romney

  2. Mitt’s father was the former Governor of Michigan.
  3. Mitt’s net worth is $250 million making him one of the richest politicians in the United States.
  4. Romney has received four honorary doctorates.
  5. Mitt was included in People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People list for 2002.

Rick Santorum

  1. Rick was a lawyer before being involved in politics.
  2. Rick has had 8 children.
  3. Rick took his still born son (Gabriel) home to show his living children their brother.
  4. Rick’s nickname while attending Butler Area public schools was “Rooster.”
  5. As a lawyer he represented the World Wrestling Federation, arguing that professional wrestling should be exempt from federal anabolic steroid regulations because it was entertainment, not an actual sport.
